The Education K-bar

Imagine this. Your daughter received a mark of 75 in Physics. It may sound nice, but in reality, the mark doesn't tell you a great deal. More than likely it sponsors the following thought: "What does a mark of 75 in Physics mean?"

In truth, it means very little. You cannot tell if you should invest in a tutor, or if you give your daughter a pat on the back along with a "well-done" gift.

However, a 75 takes on more meaning when you know how it stands in relationship to the marks others received in Physics. If you learn that everybody else received a 92 in Physics, then the 75 begins to have a particular meaning. If you learn that everyone else received a 62, it begins to have another meaning. Still, placing the mark of 75 in the midst of a couple of other numbers doesn't tell you much. You see it's not the mark of 75 that gets a child into the college of choice. It's where that mark stands in when compared to others who want to get into the same college.

Moreover, comparing the 75 to other marks takes on greater meaning if you know a bit about those who received the other marks. That is, a parent generally needs to know how her daughter's mark compares to her peers. How did it compare to those students who are overachievers, moderate achievers, or underachievers. A parent also understands more when she knows if her daughter's mark was one of the marks given to everyone in her class, or to everyone in her school, or perhaps to everyone in her school district.

How the mark of 75 fits into an average is also helpful. That is, if everybody received a 75, then the daughter probably has a good chance of being considered for a scholarship. But, if half her peers received a 95 while the other half received a 55, her 75 puts her in the middle of her peers. Being in the middle probably means the chances the daughter will be considered for a scholarship are greatly reduced. The parent may need to consider tutoring. K-bar is a tool that allows you to see how a child's marks compare to others, and it does so at a glance. You don't need to be an expert in statistics to get it. K-bar is a practical tool for real people.

K-bar is a tool for people who don't want to waste time trying to determine where people or things stand in relationship to others in similar situations. It's for those who need to understand such relationships quickly and objectively. The fundamental design of K-bar is to identify a subject or an issue, to measure its magnitude, and to put it in perspective.

K-bar is an everyday tool for everyone. K-bar turns data into a visual form that allows immediate insight.

Whether you are a parent, an educator, a student, or a school official, K-bar makes student-related information much more transparent. K-bar allows easy absorption of what can be very complicated information. It allows you to make informed decision quickly. There are few things in life that are easier to learn and use than K-bar.

Education K-bar has an engine, concept, function, and feel similar to that of Real Estate K-bar. www.K-bar.net. [Actually, all comparative K-bars, such as employee performance K-bars, product evaluation K-bars, resume K-bars, and so on will be produced by a similar engine.]

Overachieving, Average achieving, and Underachieving students are similar to Expensive, Moderately Priced or Inexpensive homes. A specific student is similar to a specific home. Various subjects [English, Physics, et cetera] are similar to various home features [Age, Size, et cetera]. A class is similar to a subdivision, a school to a Zip code, a school district to a County, and so on.
